Employment Frequently Asked Questions

Glad you asked….

Throughout the recruiting season, the Human Resources Department receives numerous questions regarding the interview process. To assist you, some of the more frequently asked questions are answered below.

Q:  WHAT FACTORS ARE CONSIDERED BEFORE HIRING?

A:  Many criteria are reviewed prior to offering an applicant a position, including information contained in the file, background experiences, education, references, a criminal background check and responses received during the interview.

Q:  DOES MY EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE MAKE ME TOO EXPENSIVE TO BE HIRED? HAVE I TAUGHT TOO MANY YEARS TO BE HIRED?

A:  No, North County is looking for the best match of a teaching applicant to the available opening.  We hire people with many years of teaching experience, as well as first year teachers. We hire teachers with Bachelor’s degrees as well as candidates with Masters or Specialist degrees.

Q:  AT WHAT POINT WILL I KNOW IF I WILL BE HIRED AND HOW WILL I BE INFORMED?

A:  The hiring process is ongoing throughout the year as vacancies occur. Recommendations to fill positions are made by the building administrators and Human Resources contacts the candidates selected. If you have been interviewed for a specific position at the building level, you will receive notification of your status when a candidate has been selected.

Q:  WHAT WILL MY SALARY BE?

A:  Salaries are determined by documentation of education and whole years of teaching experience in an accredited school district.

Q:  WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT BENEFITS?

A:  Please visit Employment Benefits.

Q:  IF I AM NOT HIRED AS A TEACHER, WILL I BE CONSIDERED FOR A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER OR PARAPROFESSIONAL POSITION?

A:  If you are interested in a substitute teaching position, please visit Substitute Teacher Opportunities.

If you are interested in a Paraprofessional position, please visit Classified Application for Employment.

Q:  IF I WORK AS A SUBSTITUTE OR PARAPROFESSIONAL IN THE DISTRICT, WILL IT INCREASE MY CHANCES OF BEING HIRED AS A TEACHER?

A:  While substitute teaching or serving as a paraprofessional does offer you an opportunity to become more acquainted with the district schools and building administrators, it does not guarantee you will be hired for a teaching position. North County School District is looking for the best match of a teaching applicant to the available opening.

Q:  SHOULD I STOP BY TO MEET OR CALL THE BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS?

A:  In fairness to the building administrators and applicants, you should not visit the buildings without prior approval from an administrator in Human Resources.

Q:  HOW AND WHEN WILL I BE CONSIDERED AS A CANDIDATE FOR ANY POSITION IN MY AREA OF CERTIFICATION?

A:  All candidates must fill out an application. If you are interested in a certified position, please watch the postings under District Job Openings. Building administrators will first consider candidates that have indicated interest for specific positions. The administrators have access to information on all applicants and develop the pool of candidates for a particular vacancy from the appropriately certified applicants. The hiring process is ongoing throughout the year as vacancies occur. (All applications are kept for approximately one year.)
